Spoken in Dutch\, with English subtitles)\, followed by a discussion with the director and the Vlottenbouwers van Amsterdam. \n📅 Wednesday\, 30 September 2026\n🕗 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.\n📍 De Witte Boei\, Kleine Wittenburgerstraat 201\n🎟️ Admission is free\, but capacity is limited. \nDrijfland is about the floating gardens of Robert Jasper Grootveld. Filmmaker Nico Boink began filming in late 1999\, when these garden islands were being built in the workshop according to Grootveld’s design. Grootveld had already been developing the concept since the 1960s. The film shows the power of collaboration\, aimed at preserving the flora and fauna of this unique biotope. Past and present intertwine\, and Robert Jasper Grootveld — an extraordinary person\, visionary and provocateur — is strongly present\, as is his legacy. \n \nThe film portrays an aspect of Amsterdam’s underground culture: unconventional\, gentle and straightforward\, and often hilarious. It also takes an in-depth look at the construction and maintenance of the Floating Gardens in the Wittenburgervaart canal. \n\n  \nAfter the screening\, we will talk with the director and the Vlottenbouwers van Amsterdam about the future of the Floating Gardens in the Wittenburgervaart. The Floating Gardens have a permit until February 2027. What will happen after that is not yet known.
