This evening will be entirely devoted to the results of the second major resident survey on Oostenburg Noord. \n📅 Thursday\, February 26\, 2026\n🕗 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.\n📍 Buurtkamer Over de Brug\, Isaac Titsinghkade 123\n🎟️ Free admission \n268 residents completed the survey and expressed their views on green spaces\, public spaces\, safety\, social cohesion\, and the use of the plinths. The results are clear: the neighborhood has potential\, but there is work to be done. During this evening\, we will explain the figures\, discuss what has changed since last year\, and\, more importantly\, what the next steps are. \nContent of the evening \nWe will discuss the most important findings from the survey and how residents\, the municipality\, and project developers can work together to achieve concrete improvements. Topics will include: \nThe scores for greenery\, public space\, safety\, and plinths\, and what they mean for the livability of the neighborhood.\nA look back: what has changed in the past year as a result of the first survey?\nThe next steps: which action points will we tackle together? \nThere will be plenty of opportunity for questions\, comments\, and ideas from the audience. Now that the Werkspoorhal in Oostenburg is temporarily vacant\, we shift our focus to other successful examples of cultural and social reuse of industrial heritage. \nIn this second episode of the new series\, we speak with representatives of two repurposed industrial sites\, both connected to the history of Werkspoor. Werkspoor was a Dutch machinery manufacturer known for steam engines\, ship engines\, trains\, and bridges. Its factories were located in what is now Oostenburg-Noord and the former district of Zuilen (now part of Utrecht). \n\nPhoto: Van Gendt Hallen – Hal 5 – Zicht van van noord naar zuid na de brand – 1922 \nThis evening\, Eduard Zanen\, owner of the Van Gendt Hallen\, will talk about the renovation and future plans for these monumental halls. Zanen initiated a sustainable renovation project to transform the halls into an energy-neutral national monument. \nWerkspoor also had a second factory complex in Utrecht. That area\, now called the Werkspoorkwartier\, has been transformed from an outdated industrial zone into a vibrant district filled with creativity\, culture\, and entrepreneurship. The Werkspoorkathedraal on the site now serves as a unique venue for events and enterprise. That must and can be done better! How? We will work on that in the Solution Café.  \nThe results of the residents’ survey are clear. The people who now live and work here do not yet experience the neighborhood as sufficiently livable and lively. The neighborhood is under development. There is understanding for that. Not everything can be picked up and improved straight away. That is clear. But what is the perspective? And what can be done now? We want to work on that.  \nThat is exactly what the Solution Café is about: tackling issues together that play a role in the neighborhood. Looking for what is possible with the people who are involved and who can make a difference.  \nThe first Solution Café focuses on the theme of Green. Great plans have already been made for this.  \nAs a preparation\, Over de Brug – with the results of the residents’ survey in hand – entered into discussions with the area broker and the project manager of the municipality. The redesign (and exploitation) of the iconic tram depot de Hallen in Amsterdam-West has become an exemplary project for the way in which you can successfully restore and manage monumental halls. Other major projects of van Stigt are the Gashouder on the Westergas (the former Westergasfabriek site) and the Koepel in Haarlem (the former Koepelprison).    \n \nDuring this evening we will talk to André van Stigt about his projects\, about the difficulties that he had to overcome and especially about the role of citizens’ initiatives. So was the Koepelprison in Haarlem put up for sale by the National Real Estate Agency for the highest bidder\, which suggested that a social redevelopment was lost. But there was resistance from the citizens and a foundation was set up that wanted to ‘give back’ the Koepel to the city. Seeing ourselves reflected in others\, mirrored in their thoughts and echoed in their words\, provides validation and a sense of safety—an anchor in rough seas.\nConvenient Freeze\, T Y Gutter’s latest project\, displays and illustrates the echo chambers of our times. \nThis project presents a series of handmade soft sculpture reliefs featuring embroidered smiling faces. A smile is a powerful nonverbal communication tool\, used to connect\, reassure\, and build rapport with others. In this artwork\, it is instead portrayed as a form of paralysis—a desperate attempt to maintain the notion that everything is fine\, keeping things at bay and signaling that you pose no threat. \nMade in the summer of 2024 and affected by the state of affairs worldwide and at home\, the working process was meditative and reflective\, internal and external. With this work\, T Y Gutter is curiously returning to soft sculpture\, a medium the artist stepped away from years ago. \nBio \nT Y Gutter is an Amsterdam-based artist and designer working across fine art\, film\, and activism. Buurtkamer Over de Brug\, Isaac Titsinghkade 123\, 1018 LL Amsterdam \nBuurtkamer Over de Brug is one of the locations of the Open Oost 2024 Art Route. The aim of Open Oost is to connect visitors directly with the work and methods of artists working in and around the Centrum-Oost area. Most works are for sale. \nAt Buurtkamer Over de Brug\, the work of MIA will be showcased: acrylic paintings on canvas and pen drawings of humans and animals\, along with collages made from cut paper. \nAdditionally\, there will be a double exhibition by photographer and neighborhood resident Sander van den Bosch titled ‘Uit de Kluiten’ and ‘Opstaan.’ ‘Uit de Kluiten’ focuses on plants and trees\, while ‘Opstaan’ captures the moment of waking up through portraits.

DESCRIPTION:The exhibition of photographer and local resident Sander van den Bosch\, called ‘Uit de Kluiten’ and ‘Opstaan’\, will soon open in the Buurtkamer. You are welcome to attend the opening on Oct. 4\, between 5 and 7 p.m. in Buurtkamer Over de Brug\, at Isaac Titsinghkade 123. The photographer himself will be present and you will be welcomed with music\, a drink and a snack.   \n‘Uit de Kluiten’ (english: From the clods) is about plants and trees: “Plants grow. are formed or not. As a result\, they sometimes become characters that influence the environment” van den Bosch said. In ‘Opstaan\,’ (english Rising) the photographer has captured the moment of waking up in portraits: “A portrait of the moment before awareness.”  \nThe exhibition can be visited in the Buurtkamer during opening hours Oct. 4 through Nov. 22\, 2024\, Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
