On Thursday evening, September 26, Talkshow #5 will take place in the Buurtkamer, focusing on slavery and Oostenburg. Since 1661, the VOC (Dutch East India Company) owned a large shipyard on Oostenburg, where slave ships, known as ‘slaafhaalders,’ were also constructed. It will be an evening with presentations, music, and film. One of the guests is researcher and historian Erik Odegard, author of the chapter ‘Slaafhaalders on Oostenburg’ in Slavery in East and West: The Amsterdam Research, 2020.
