A Turbulent Year Construction activity on Oostenburg continued throughout the year. And it is far from finished. Residents regularly faced disruption from construction traffic, large waste trucks, buildings going back into scaffolding, and cranes carrying out repair work. The year also began with a great deal of controversy around the Werkspoorhal. The owner wanted to install padel courts. This directly contradicted what residents had been promised. Many residents spoke up, shared ideas, and filed objections. The outcome: the original promises will not be fulfilled. Instead, BigGym will move in, with an opening planned for spring 2026 after two years of vacancy. In terms of green space, the year was calmer. Weeds had room to grow.
